500 Mile Walking Journey

500 Mile Walking Journey with  Kerry and Jean  Let's Get Walking!  We're back to walking today!! Finally the temperatures came down  into the  60's this morning.  It's was great to have a few days of rest.  But it felt even better to get walking again.  This morning when we saw that the temps were going to be lower   before 7 a.m.  we both quickly put our walking shoes on and jumped at the chance to walk.  I've been asked how do we know how many miles we walk each day? It's been made pretty easy to figure out with cell phones and GPS's.  I use a app on my phone called   Map My Walk. It can  literally map out the route we take. It records the miles we walk, duration, avg pace min per miles, calories and steps, along with elevation.  It will analyze your work out for you.  I save them and then at the end of the week it will total our miles.  We hav...

500 Mile Walking Journey-Rest Day

Image
500 Mile Walking Journey with  Kerry and Jean  Let's Get Walking!  Kerry and Jean those crazy walkers Red Flag Day!! Today was suppose to be a walking day. But instead Kerry is home with sore feet and back.  Some days are like that for us.  It's ok because we understand that the body sometimes needs rest.  This brings me to today's topic. How do you know when you have over done your routine and when is it time to take a break.?  Listen to your body.  If something is hurting more then just being sore, rest.  If is doesn't get better see your doctor.  Years ago I got plantar fasciitis , one of the most painful injuries I've had.  I had it in both feet and had to stay off them for a whole season of 5K's . There are many remedies to help with this conditional but mostly it just takes time. I will leave a link about  plantar fasciitis, it if you need this information .  Start her...

500 Mile Walking Journey with Kerry and Jean  Let's get walking!! We made it!! 50 Mile milestone We have come to our next milestone, and it's time to celebrate!!   We knew we would get there, it was just a matter of when.  I took a week off to rest my knee, than we had company.... it stormed, then it got hot.... the truth is sometimes I don't want to walk!! Oh, yes it happens.  I just kept saying to myself, " T his is not a sprint, it's a marathon.".  It's not about how fast we do the walks, it's the journey.   We walked around the Spring Creek Marina this morning, and what a surprise we found.  Two Minutes In Nature with a pelican.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fmYsznrt8M Tomorrow we plan on going up the canyon  with Sarah and James  so they can   celebrate with us.  Be Inspired, Kerry and Jean

500 Mile Walking Journey with  Kerry and Jean Let's Get Walking! Kerry and Jean with their Teton 5K medals. Welcome Back! Kerry and I just got back from doing the Teton 5K in Rexbury, Id. . What a wonderful day we had.  They were commemorating 41 years of the Teton Dam's flood.    We went early in the morning, our race started at 8:30.  Teton 5K video at the race. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruy4lwrTZiA&t=20s Kerry and I started doing 5K's as a way for me to recover from knee surgery. Walking is good physical therapy, plus I like to have goals.  We started looking around the community for 5K's . It's a good way to give back to local towns doing fundraisers, plus we get the health benefits of walking.  After doing a few close to home, we started to venture out  looking for 5K's where we planned to travel.  This is the site I use to find 5K's for when we travel.  http://www.runningint...

Season's Changing

500 Mile Walking Journey celebrating our first milestone of 25 miles out of 500 mile walking journey Good Morning video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_dh5xzHagc This is a quick blog for today. We walked our home base walk around the Spring Creek Marina today with our grandson. With the changing of the season into summer we have changed the time we walk. We now try to get out closer to 7:30 in the morning since the sun comes up earlier and it's beginning to get much too hot to walk any later.  One thing we have learned  on our walking journey is to be prepared for the heat.  Take along plenty of water.  2. a hat 3. sunscreen 4. we usually wear long sleeve athletic running shirts to protect our arms.  If you have any other items you bring add them in the comments. Our next blog will be a 5K in Rexburg, ID walking the Teton Dam 5K race.  Subscribe so you don't miss any of our walks.  Let's Get Walking! ...
